The Key to the City

The mayor of Bellingham wants to get us on the map so he’s taken the Mt Vernon bus to sillyness. Mt Vernon (25 miles to the south on I5) is giving The key to their “city” to Glenn Beck, who, apparently (we haven’t seen the birth certificate yet) was born there. Well, Glenn moved to Bellingham when he was a teenager and graduated from a high school up here.  One would think that if that were important we would give him a key too. But no, our Mayor Pike went to the same high school as John Stewart, (who knows who he is) back in New Jersy so he wants to give the key to our fair city to him. It’s not confirmed that they were pals, or contemporaries. Well, I hope he’s paying for the Key.

The stupidity of it will get Bellingham on the map. (of stupidity) And to think that I voted for the guy, I think, well, I’m not sure, ’cause there was this other guy, what was his name. You just can’t really know these people until they atually start coming up with their own ideas, then you see what they really have in their brain pan. I’m smelling  om(aeiou)let here. ( you choose the vowel on that one)

wifely wisdom

My wife is a technophobe and we go back and forth but this morning she summed it up: “Our civilization is hanging by an electric cord.” very fragile, I might add.

Hard sayings of Scripture (verses quoted from NASB)

The following verses, and many like them, stand in the way of that “I’m ok/you’re ok” God that our culture has created for its own comfort. The verses are easy to understand. There’s no “He didn’t really mean that” escape. It’s Bible and we’re stuck with it, for ourselves, and for the rest of the world.

You gathered wood on the Sabbath,  you die: Numbers 15:32…36

You lied to the Holy Spirit, you die : Acts 5:1…11

“Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated”: Romans 9:13

“Vengence is mine, I will repay”, says the Lord: Romans 12:19

“He who believes in the Son has eternal lfe; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36

Afghanistan

“In Afghanistan” by David Loyn has been my literary diet these past few days, a brief history of the West’s futile attempt to bring this culture into our fold. Beginning in 1808, a British, Russian and now American enterprise; what a waste of time.

My suggestion is to build a Walmart in Kabul and wait 10 years. If the Afghanis can resist that then we should by all means leave them alone. They may be our only hope of a surviving humanity.

I’m really not (always think I should though)

So I’ll try again.

I’m at both ends this time, the writer and the reader. Sometimes I say the coolest things, ask the coolest questions, punch and jab…well, you be the judge.
